St. Armands Key is a low lying island in Sarasota Bay. Most residential sites are only five to seven feet above the mean high tide. New construction must now be built with most living space being elevated from grade resulting in taller houses. A rising sea level will affect the ability of people to live here and will increase the chance of water damage from the storm surge caused by hurricanes.
